The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale Gives Us The Sequel We Always Wanted

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We finally got to see Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in all his glory. In many ways Luke’s scene in the finale was quite similar to Darth Vader’s scene at the end of Rogue One, but instead of carving through rebels, Luke, with green lightsaber in hand, carves his way through a platoon of Death Troopers. In my book, this almost makes up for Luke’s horrible treatment in the Sequel Trilogy. I am just grateful that Lucasfilm/Disney finally gave the fans this version of post-Original Trilogy Luke Skywalker.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the finale for Season 2 of The Mandalorian in whole. In many ways, this season of The Mandalorian has given the fans of Star Wars the sequel to the Original Trilogy they deserve. We got to see Ahsoka in live action for the first time, and her episode set up her own series, in which it appears she will be going after Grant Admiral Thrawn. We got to see Bo-Katan Kryze and her hunt to reclaim the Darksaber. We got to see what happened to Boba Fett after the sarlacc pit, and as previously stated, we got to see Luke Skywalker in action (not some green milk sucking coward).

Also, if you continued to watch the finale past the credits, there was a post-credit scene in which Boba Fett and Fennec Shand return to Jabba’s palace on Tatooine where Bib Fortuna has taken over Jabba’s gang. Fett and Shand enter the palace blasters ablaze killing all the guards and Fortuna. In classic Boba Fett style, he does not say a word. Fett then sits on Jabba’s throne, and the words, “The Book of Boba Fett Coming December 2021” appear on screen. As if we did not get enough announcements for new Star Wars content at Disney’s Investor Day just last week, we get another new show about Boba Fett next year.

The ending of season 2 has also set up an interesting situation for season 3. Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) defeated Moff Gideon in their duel and is now the owner of the darksaber. He wishes to give the darksaber to Bo-Katan, but as Gideon stated, she must win the darksaber from Djarin in combat. It looks like this will be setting up an interesting conflict in the next season. Additionally, what will happen to Moff Gideon? Will Cara Dune be taking him prisoner on behalf of The New Republic, or will one of the Mandalorians be taking custody of Gideon? Also, we got to see Ahsoka and mention of Thrawn, but what about Ezra Bridger? Will Ezra be making an appearance in The Mandalorian, or will Lucasfilm/Disney save him for Ahsoka’s show. Will Thrawn become the main antagonist in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, or will Lucasfilm/Disney save Thrawn for Ahsoka’s show as well? So many questions, and we will all just have stay tuned for the new content as it is released.
